A Modern Day Setback That Affects The Majority Of Americans

A modern day setback that affects the majority of Americans today is tuition and at the current rate of inflation, it will affect the upcoming generation. Imagine yourself as an 18-year-old high school student thinking about your future and college. In this situation, you are the student who gets excellent grades and works hard but isn’t financially stable. You, like lots of others, have dreamed of pursuing your education at the schools you have been accepted to but, you have come to the conclusion that it’s not possible for you to attend those schools because of your financial situation. Thus, you’re forced to attend a community college or take out loans that will leave you in debt for a sustained amount of time and you’ll stay hoping for†¦show more content†¦When dealing with a problem, the best approach towards solving is to find and fix the root of the problem. So why is college tuition, so high? One reason is the loss of state funding. The l ucky generation are the baby boomers in how they benefited from state funding which made it easier to attend college (Campos). Colleges relied heavily on state funding and they had to find a way to make up for all the money they stopped receiving. The best solution was to raise tuition every year and this sparked the inflation that millions of people deal with every year. Tuition used to be affordable and more people were able to graduate as a result. So now that people are forced to pay much more in tuition, it’s safe to assume that every bit of that extra money is being used to enhance students’ education. Sadly this is false and here’s the reason why. The maintenance and supervision of a college is handled by college administrators. Several years ago, there were not a handful of administrators that worked present on campus, but as time progressed more and more administrators were being hired. These administrators get paid very well and its part of the reason why tuition is high (Ginsberg). Overall, tuition has reached an all-time high and without a doubt this causes a lot of struggles for students and parents. A majority of students who attend college are

Personal Narrative My Family Relationship - 1370 Words

Every second of every day, something unexpected happens to someone. A life taken, a relationship that has ended, or even a positive pregnancy test. Because these events are unexpected, we cannot control them and sometimes can’t help them. I believe everything happens for a reason, although not always a good reason. Maybe I could’ve stopped what happened on that brisk, morning of May 19th, 2016. Yet, I’m happy that it wasn’t worse than it was. â€Å"I’m done with him playing with my feelings, I’m just going to do it,† I told my friends. â€Å"I’ll write a note like they do in the movies to ask him out.† So I wrote a note asking him to be my boyfriend, and stuck it in my bag for the next day. Thank goodness I never got to give him that note, the†¦show more content†¦I remember my mom telling us just as she was turning the corner she saw the flashing lights and knew we took that road. Right then is when she got the call. I turned in circles trying to take in the madness that was ensuing us but it was very difficult without my glasses. I felt like Velma in a Scooby Doo mystery, and wondered if I was going to have to wait days before I could see clearly again. There were cars passing by and even a bus passed with all of the kids peering out their small windows to see what had happened. My mom’s embrace brought all of us together like a bundle of cotton going to the market. I looked at my arm and remembered the stinging of the air that I had felt when I crawled out from the overturned truck. I had been cut by the broken glass that had shattered all across the windows. The EMT who helped wrap my arm took me into the ambulance to find gauze. I decided then that I didn’t like ambulances, they were intimidating and nerve-wracking. Although, I have wanted to be a doctor since I was little. My parents ended up driving me to the hospital because we didn’t want to go in the ambulance and there was no need for us to. I found myself paying attention to every single car that drove past and I watched all the road signs. I was actually relieved when we got to the emergency room and walked through the sliding doors. Dreams of What I am Meant to Be free essay sample

When I was seven, I went to the gym four hours a day and six days a week. When asked at this age what I wanted to be when I grew up there was no question. I would say, â€Å"I want to be a professional gymnast.† To me gymnastics seemed almost as if it were a career, you studied it, trained for it, performed it, and eventually achieved your dreams. I was a natural at gymnastics. I remember, one day after a hard practice, I was walking into the lobby to get ready to go home, when a group of moms stopped me. They leaned down and said, â€Å"We were watching you practice today, you were excellent.. We just want to know when you will be in the Olympics?† As a child, I simply calculated the first Olympics I would be eligible to compete in and responded, â€Å"2012†, and walked away as simple as that. We will write a custom essay sample on Dreams of What I am Meant to Be or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I honestly believe it too, moves came easily to me and I trained hard. At that age there was no doubt it my mind, I was meant to do gymnastics. As years passed and injuries occurred, I spent more and more time at the doctor’s office. I realized my dream of being a â€Å"professional gymnast† was not going to happen but while I was there I witnessed firsthand the lack of care for patients and for patients’ time. Later when my grandfather was mistreated at hospital and died due to the poor treatment, I found a new calling. This time I was sure I was meant to be a caring and passionate doctor. Doctors help all kinds of people, directly influencing people’s everyday lives, creating the greater good of society. This became my goal, however, in Technology and Careers class, in seventh grade, we researched our careers. Once I realized how much time and money it took to be a doctor, I again realized it was not meant to be. Still wanting to prevent careless treatment of patients and help the greater good, I looked into careers; I found health administration. This career allows me to make a difference in the way doctors practice by regulating procedures and policies in order to deliver quality care and efficiency. By helping the doctor help society, I help society. For many years now, health administration has been my number one career choice. Working towards this career I began to take classes required for this major. I began to study it and train for it so one day I can achieve my dreams and work in this field just as my time in gymnastics taught me. You never know how you’ll find out whom or what you are meant to be. For me, gymnastics led to injury, which lead to doctors, which led to my career dream. As long as you have a passion for it, the only way to find out is to work at it. For now I will work towards what I think I am meant to do, be a health administrator, and see where life takes m e. One dream can lead to another and eventually you will find your perfect calling.
